HAUTEUR D’EAU is a painting made with large dried grass, sand, earth, twigs glued on canvas. In this painting James imagines that we are in a river. There is a water current that makes the aquatic weeds ripple. It is one of the rare paintings where James used vegetable matter. This type of achievement requires a lot of time: it is a way of paying homage to the elements of nature and to the french painter Monet.
